The scents of Bright’s Patch

My favourite thing in the gardens recently is Bright’s Patch. Not only was it a picture with its carpet of snowdrops under the purple and gold hazel catkins, the red-stemmed dogwoods and winter honeysuckles, which were covered in flower and alive with bees, but the scent was extraordinary.

As I reached the top of the sloping path and stopped to admire the view down into the wood, a fabulous fragrance rose up to meet me – a combination of scents from the Lonicera (shrubby honeysuckle), Witch Hazels and winter box.

I don’t know if you’ve been watching Monty Don’s Paradise Gardens, but I thought our little corner of paradise was just as lovely as anything he shows us.
