Changing dietary habits is not for everyone, and for some, it may not be appropriate. However, for those who are able and willing to take an active role in supporting their bodies through cancer treatment and beyond, I would heartily recommend investing in a copy of Nourish.
Nourish is much more than just a recipe book; it contains sections on the link between diet and cancer, managing treatment and side effects and the power of food. It also includes a fantastic section on some of the best foods to include in your diet, the natural compounds in these foods and the possible benefits you can get from these nutrients.
In my opinion there is just the right amount of background information. It provides a great overview of the positive impact that diet can have and covers some of the latest scientific research on the role that diet can play in helping to boost your immune system and swing the odds in your favour.
The majority of the book is dedicated to a wide array of delicious recipes. These include sections on Shakes, juices, smoothies and breakfasts, soups and light dishes, main meals and, my favourite, desserts and baked treats! I also loved the health benefits section that comes with each of the recipes…you can indulge in a spot of smugness about how much good the food is doing whilst enjoying the delicious tastes! It gives a balanced, research-based overview of this complex subject, and is written in a style which makes it easy and interesting to read. The story of his journey with his own cancer is interwoven with descriptions of cutting edge research experiments which throw new light on how to reduce the chances of cancer developing and growing.
