Wellbeing Days

Our Wellbeing Days – held at our beautiful centre near Bristol – are open to anyone affected by cancer and are an opportunity to come together with others in a similar situation for an inspiring and uplifting day in therapeutic surroundings.

Each of the Wellbeing Days is led by our friendly experienced team, with a range of engaging and enjoyable activities designed to support your health and wellbeing. A delicious lunch and nutritious snacks are included, and there will be plenty of time to enjoy our special gardens, whatever the weather!

With different wellbeing themes to choose from, there is something for everyone.

To ensure that as many people can join us as possible, we are delighted to be able to offer the opportunity to stay at our centre the night before each Wellbeing Day on a bed and light breakfast basis. All our double or twin rooms are quiet and comfortable and have ensuite bathrooms. Availability is limited so please enquire when making your booking.

Relax and Restore Wellbeing Day

Wednesday 15 May, Thursday 8 August, Wednesday 6 November (2024)

Our Relax and Restore days combine a range of gentle therapeutic activities designed to nourish your mind, body and spirit. With a relaxed pace, delicious lunch and plenty of time to enjoy our wonderful gardens, the days are a special opportunity to enjoy some restorative time for yourself.

The days starts with a welcome cuppa at 10am and the activities finish at 3.15pm, but you are welcome to enjoy the house and gardens until 4pm. A delicious lunch and snacks are included.

This Wellbeing Day particularly focuses on our Rest and Relax pillar of work. The programme varies each time but is likely to include three or four of the following activities:

    • Beneficial breathing
    • Mind and body relaxation
    • Exploring healing
    • Soothing self-care

Costs and contribution

We want all of our services to be accessible to anyone with cancer, regardless of their circumstances, so our Wellbeing Days are offered free of charge thanks to the generous support of Walk the Walk. However, as a charity we rely on donations to continue our work.

When booking your place, you will be asked if you are able to contribute towards the cost of the day* – the suggested contribution is £45 per person (excluding accommodation). We understand that times are tough right now, and if you cannot afford the suggested contribution we simply ask you to give what you can, if you can. Any contribution you can make will help us continue to offer this valuable support.

Food and Move Wellbeing Day

Wednesday 4 September (2024)

Engaging in regular activity and eating a nutritious diet are two of the most helpful lifestyle habits to support your physical and emotional health and wellbeing with cancer. At our popular food and move days our specialist team will inspire and motivate you with practical tips, ideas and recipes to help you eat well and move more, in ways that are enjoyable and sustainable.

The day starts with a welcome cuppa at 10am and the activities finish at 3.15pm, but you are welcome to enjoy the house and gardens until 4pm. A delicious lunch and snacks are included. The programme will focus on movement in the morning and the afternoon will look at ways to make simple everyday food joyful and delicious.

This Wellbeing Day particularly focuses on our Move more and Eat well pillars of work. The programme varies each time but is likely to include three or four of the following activities:

    • Gentle movement e.g. Qi Gong, yoga or restorative Pilates
    • Nordic walking
    • Chair-based exercise session
    • Quick and easy cooking demonstration
    • Make your own energy balls
    • An ‘edible garden’ tour with herbal tea tasting

We want all of our services to be accessible to anyone with cancer, regardless of their circumstances, so our Wellbeing Days are offered free of charge thanks to the generous support of Walk the Walk. However, as a charity we rely on donations to continue our work.

Menopause Wellbeing Day

Some cancer treatments can cause early or unexpected menopausal symptoms and it can be hard to know how best to manage these. At this Wellbeing Day, we will share practical tips and ideas for eating well, moving more and managing stress that can reduce the physical and emotional impacts of hormonal changes, and help you feel better.

The days starts with a welcome cuppa at 10am and the activities finish at 3.15pm, but you are welcome to enjoy the house and gardens until 4pm. A delicious lunch and snacks are included.

Mind Matters Wellbeing Day

Thursday 27 June and Wednesday 4 December (2024)

It’s very normal to experience a whole range of emotions when you or a loved one has cancer. Shock, fear, anger, sadness, even guilt are experienced by nearly everyone with cancer at some point. This Wellbeing Day is a chance to connect with others with similar experiences and learn and experience a range of helpful tools to help you cope with the emotional impacts of cancer and feel more yourself again.

This Wellbeing Day particularly focuses on our Your Mind Matters pillar of work.

Men's Day

Wednesday 24 April and Friday 4 October (2024)

Our new Men’s Days will share practical, evidence-based tools and ideas to help you make simple, sustainable and enjoyable lifestyle changes to help support you at any stage of your cancer experience. It will also be an opportunity to meet and chat with other men and hear their valuable insights and experiences. 

Learn tips and tricks from Oliver, the Penny Brohn UK chef alongside nutrition expert Kim who together are cooking up a lunch which includes key protective nutrients for strengthening your body and mind from the effects of cancer and cancer treatment. 

Damien, a qualified personal trainer, will lead an exercise session called ‘Movement is Medicine’ that will explore how our mental and physical health go hand in hand and offer practical ways we can remain active regardless of physical ability. 

Allon, our counselling lead, will then lead a session around stress management; offering  a range of tools to support dealing with some of the concerns, pressures and emotions that can arise when faced with a cancer diagnosis as a man.

The day starts with a welcome cuppa at 10am and finishes at 4.00pm, but you are welcome to enjoy the house and gardens following this if you wish. A delicious lunch and snacks are included.
