Help change life with cancer. For good

100 laps for Penny Brohn UK

After a diagnosis of prostate cancer, Ramesh wanted to raise funds for Penny Brohn UK. He found his opportunity in the chance opening of a marketing email that he’d normally ignore.

I would like to thank Penny Brohn UK for the fantastic work they do. I have already received invaluable benefits far outweighing the money I have raised.

I was truly impressed with two philosophies embraced by Penny Brohn UK. First is the holistic approach for the care of the "mind, spirit, emotions heart and soul" whilst the medical profession provides the treatment for the actual cancer.

The second, equally important and worthy philosophy is: "that everybody should have equal access to the practical, emotional and social support they need to live life as fully as possible with the impact of cancer.” This is of course irrespective of whether they can afford such invaluable support.

I was therefore toying with either making a direct donation or raising some funds through some activity. Here came the last of my fortunes. Out of the blue I received a mailshot from Virgin Money, which I would normally have deleted but I was drawn to it by the mention of the intrepid Captain Tom Moore. Furthermore, the platform allowed me to raise funds for my chosen charity and this was a no brainer. I swim regularly (usually five times a week) so it was easy for me to do 100 x 25 metre laps in honour of Captain Tom Moore who would have been 100 on the 30 April had he lived.

I undertook my challenge across two days. I matched all donations of up £250 and in total raised just over £1,200.
