Ruth was a huge dog lover so I decided to call the event Walkies with Woof as Woof was Ruth’s nickname. 30 of Ruth’s friends walked the 15 mile route from Crewkerne in Somerset to West Bay, past all the places that meant something to her. We played music from the back of a tractor and had a brilliant but emotional day. We raised nearly £10,000 which we split between Penny Brohn UK and the local hospice that cared for Ruth.
The event was so successful that we organised a second walk the following year call WWW TT Trek, named after Ruth’s much loved and long awaited Audi TT. This time we walked Ruth’s favourite road, the coast road from West Bay to Abbotsbury. Ruth always said it was the best road in Britain. We walked the nine miles of hills and had a picnic on the back of the tractor and trailer overlooking the amazing Jurassic coastline. We raised over £10,000 which we split between the two charities again.
I miss Ruth every day. It’s very important for me to keep Ruth’s memory alive so I’m hoping to do something in her memory again this year (2019) as it would have been her 60th birthday.
