My whole family have got involved with Penny Brohn UK and the lifestyle changes I have made as a result of the support I received. My wife and children also eat predominately plant-based foods and my daughters have taken part in fundraising events with one running the London Marathon and another running the Bristol Half.
I was devastated to be diagnosed with cancer but Penny Brohn UK has helped me reframe it. I can’t change my diagnosis but I have learnt to turn it on its head. When I was in hospital I felt out of control and that decisions about my care was being made behind closed doors. Penny Brohn UK made me feel like a person again and helped me take back control of my life. Alongside the conventional medical treatment, Penny Brohn UK has helped me to help myself.
During chemotherapy I couldn’t work but I started volunteering with people with mental health problems and also started volunteering at Penny Brohn UK to share my story and help other people who have been diagnosed with cancer. I believe that if something makes you feel better then it helps.
