Singer-songwriter client Sally Larkin has produced a CD to sell for Penny Brohn after we supported her husband Chris Jones, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2016, and herself.
Sally, who has over 30 years’ industry experience including working with Peter Gabriel and Sharon Redd, has created 10-track Life and Other Songs, with Access to Music colleagues and students. Our Penny Brohn Community Choir feature on two tracks.
She said: “Penny Brohn’s special – it’s greatly helped Chris and myself.
“The album’s a mix of classic soul, funk, jazz, Latin and ’60’s pop. Expect songs with love, passion, life and longing, with uplifting, beautiful melodies, harmonies, beats and lyrics.
“The ballad Life is inspired by the charity and is me at my most personal. I wrote Walk the Walk just prior to Chris’ diagnosis and didn’t know the significance until I visited Penny Brohn and heard how charity Walk the Walk avidly supports them. This serendipitous fact made the project seem ‘meant to be’.”
Sally’s crowdfunding managed to raise over £3000, which covers mastering and pressing of the CDs and digital downloads. The album, which costs £10, launches at our National Centre on July 1 from 4pm-7pm.
