Brazen burglars steal charity rooftop

It has saddened us this week to find our beloved 18th-century folly without a roof, after it was stolen by burglars some time between 6.30pm on Monday and 6am on Tuesday 6th June.

Some of our volunteers discovered the damage to the outbuilding, on Tuesday morning, whilst preparing the gardens for our open day on 18th June and it was discovered that the incident had taken place between 6.30pm on the Monday and 6am on the Tuesday.

General Manager, Andrew Hufford, has expressed his dismay, saying;

“We were devastated to learn that some heartless people are shameless enough to deprive a charity of a roof.

“Clients who attend our free services are also distraught – they find the folly therapeutic in coming to terms with cancer, often sitting in and near it to relax, but, for the short-term, we must seal off the area.”

It costs £5,895 a day to cover the National Centre core service costs and it is a concern that this may now have to cover the £4,000 replacement itself. So we are asking for your help!

We have set up the folly fund, to try and recover the money needed to replace the roof, which many of our service users see as a peaceful sanctuary. If anyone wishes to donate – every penny is greatly received.

To donate visit www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/pennybrohnuk/follyfund or call 0303 3000 118.

Anyone with information on the incident should call police on 101 or visit www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact, quoting ref: 52171 26571.
